Pests We See Most in Hutto
Hutto went from farm town to one of the fastest-growing suburbs in Texas, and its pests come from the prairie that’s still all around it.
Fire Ants
Hutto’s flat, sunny lawns and freshly graded lots are ideal fire ant ground, especially in the newer neighborhoods off FM 1660 and US 79.
Mosquitoes
High pressure near Cottonwood Creek, Hutto Lake Park, and the detention ponds in newer subdivisions.
Roaches & Ants
Hutto sits on blackland clay that cracks open in summer drought, giving pests a direct path to slabs and plumbing.
Mice & Rodents
When nearby fields are plowed or harvested, field mice look for the closest shelter, which is often a garage or attic at the edge of town.
Hutto Specific Frequently Asked Questions About Pest Control
Why does Hutto experience these types of pests?
Hutto grew from about 1,250 residents in 2000 to more than 27,000 by 2020, and almost all of that growth happened on former blackland prairie farmland. That gives Hutto homes two things at once: freshly graded soil and open, sunny lawns that fire ants colonize fast, and active farm fields right next to neighborhoods. Add the clay soil that cracks in summer and the creeks and ponds that hold water, and Hutto homes deal with fire ants, roaches, mosquitoes and rodents more than most of Central Texas.
Why do mice show up in my home in the fall?
Homes at the edge of Hutto often back up to working farmland. When those fields are harvested or plowed, usually late summer into fall, the mice living in them lose their food and cover all at once, and they move to the nearest shelter: garages, attics, and gaps around utility lines. Cooler nights speed it up. Our regular visits include checking the perimeter for the entry points mice use, and our rodent bait add-on keeps tamper-resistant stations working around your home year-round.
Why are there so many ants in my yard?
Fire ants love exactly what Hutto has: flat, open, sunny ground with few mature trees. New construction makes it worse, because grading and fresh sod give new colonies room to spread before anything else moves in. Treating individual mounds rarely solves it. Our fire ant add-on treats the whole yard with bait that targets the queen, so colonies stop coming back.
Does Prickly Pear treat for ants as part of their regular service?
Yes — Prickly Pear’s base pest control service includes ant service for the interior as well as the perimeter of the home with optional add-ons for full yard fire ant service.
Do you remove wasp nests?
Yes — Our technicians will inspect and remove wasp nests during a regular service.
