At Prickly Pear Wildlife, our story begins with two friends from different backgrounds who shared a common passion for nature and wildlife. Dan, an engineer specializing in cutting-edge technology, and Patrick, who leads operations at a manufacturing facility in a regulated industry, became quick friends while volunteering as coaches and board members for their kids’ softball team.

Both outdoor enthusiasts, Dan and Patrick spend as much time as possible with their families in nature. They noticed that the pest control services they used at their homes did not provide a sense of safety for their families, pets, or the wildlife in their neighborhoods. As central Texas grew and new neighborhoods sprang up in green spaces, they felt the need to find alternative ways to protect homes while minimizing the impact on nature.

Their journey began with exploring the options for wildlife and pest control. They discovered that the industry largely continued to deliver services in the same way it had for decades. Even though live trapping and relocating animals had become more common, studies showed that very few animals survived relocation. This raised the critical question: why?

Driven by curiosity and a belief in coexistence between people and animals, Dan and Patrick began researching the latest methods in exclusion, trapping, baiting, and repellents. They met with local companies to understand their processes and explore opportunities for improvement. After months of discussions with industry experts and analysis of industry trends, they met the owner-operator of a local pest control company with 20 years of experience in central Texas and a customer base that aligned with their vision of a better way for humans and animals alike.

Realizing that they each brought unique strengths, they decided to join forces and create a new standard for humane wildlife exclusion. Prickly Pear Wildlife was born.
